Tribal members of the Native Village of Eyak have been stewards of the environment and of the Prince William Sound for more than 10,000 years, thriving off the abundant and diverse natural resources of the region. After experiencing the devastation, first-hand, from a major oil spill, we feel it is our responsibility to take the lead on the development of the Shepard Point Oil Spill Response Facility to ensure the continuation of our subsistence lifestyle and environmental stewardship, which are major cornerstones in the preservation of our cultural history.
